I used to hula hoop with a large 2 lb weighted hoop. It gave me really bad bruises and was difficult to incorporate into a consistent routine, so I thought the belt design of this product seemed cool. Also it's much easier to store in a small space than a regular hula hoop. It took me about 5 or 6 tries to get used to it. 1) to keep it moving, start making the longer string on the weight. 2) help to have some sort of padding around the waist to keep the hoop level around my waist. Its hard to hoop! Especially if those muscles aren't used to it. I can feel it definitely is doing something. After 30 minutes I'm not out of breath sweating or in pain, but I can tell I used my core hip and leg muscles. I'm glad it's not taking the toll I thought it would based on my experience with a regular hoop. This is more convenient and manageable to exercise that you can do at home.
This product is great! I bought this for my mom who had recently had a hip replacement. She was not responding very well to typical physical therapy so we got this to see if it would help make her motion a little more fluid. So far so good.

After realizing a jump rope is too much for my knees, I decided to get this. It's easy to put together or take some of the links off and fun to use. It is a decent workout after the 30 minutes recommended. I still need to be cautious of my knee due to the twirling motion but it's much better than a jump rope. This is definitely something that I can do at home while I'm watching TV or something when I don't want to go to gym after work and feel guilty not going.
